About Us – The Ya Kun Story
Ya Kun began in 1926 with a young Hainanese boy, Loi Ah Koon, who arrived in Singapore with nothing but a suitcase and a dream. From a tiny coffeestall at Telok Ayer, he built a beloved spot known for fragrant kopi, charcoal-grilled kaya toast, and warm, heartfelt service. Together with his wife, who perfected their homemade kaya, Ah Koon created a legacy rooted in grit, simplicity and genuine hospitality.
From its humble beginnings to its home at Far East Square, Ya Kun has grown into a timeless Singapore icon — a place where tradition lives on, and every cup of coffee tells a story.
